Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nizamuddin is currently the Chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). He brings with him an excellent academic and administrative record. Dr. Nizam did his Masters in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and earned his PhD in the same discipline from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. During his academic career he received fellowships from USAID, SIDA and the Ford Foundation.
He taught as Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina and as a Professor of Public Health at Columbia University. He has had a distinguished career with the United Nations (UN) spanning over a period of 24 years. Dr. Nizam has held several senior positions in Jordan, Egypt, and Ethiopia. He has being appointed Director for the Asia and Pacific Region and Director for Technical Policy and Division at the UN Headquarters, New York.

Since his return to Pakistan Dr. Nizam has served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Gujrat from 2006-2014. He has also served as Vice Chancellor of Government College for Women and University of Sialkot from 2012-2014. Earlier he served as Professor of Sociology at the University of the Punjab under the HEC Foreign Professor Program. 

In 2014, he was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz, one of the highest civil awards by the Government of Pakistan, for his contribution to higher education development in Pakistan.
